I have a rubber duck which I decided to turn into a 3d model in 3ds MAX.
I then decided to come up with some variations on the material and mesh.

This material used a fall-off on the lumination to change the lighting on the surface.

FLESH

This affect is made by applying a noise texture in a fall-off filter, in the transparency map on a raytrace material with some refraction.

LEAF

For this one I used a scatter compound to clone lots of leaves.

By creating a reference copy of the leaf then applying the scatter compound I could modify the original leaf without having to destroy the scatter object.

FUR

This is pretty much the same as the leaves, just using a alpha strip combined with the scatter compound in max to create fur!

ICE

This one used a ray trace material with some fall-off on the transparency with some noise on that filter.

STICH

For this I created a displacement map to create the height for the fabric.
