Cheap Cell shader

This is a cheap cell shader for 3Ds max.

One of the annoying facts in max is that the cell shader (Ink N paint) material is kinda slow. with this method you can save allot of time.

Basic shader

Render time (1.5 seconds)

Ink N paint material

Render time (20 seconds)

Cheap cell shader

Render time (2 seconds)

First you need a object.

Here's our good old friend MR teapot.

This object can be found in standard primitives . I then applied a CAP modifier to fill in the holes.

Then a reference copy of the teapot is made. With push modifier added with a setting of 0.6. This will make the object fatter.

Then a normal modifier with flip is added to invert the reference copy of the teapot.

Now the teapot has an outline.

Then I just changed the contrast on the lighting to give it shaper lighting and turned the reference copy black to make the outline standout.

There its done.
